VASA AFTER•SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
2009-2010
MISSION STATEMENT
The ASP mission is to enhance proficiency of the ASP population of VASA student body in math, science and language arts by providing students with engaging, inquiry based, hands-on activities that promote natural curiosity and encourage a love of life long active learning.

VISION
The VASA After-school Enrichment program compliments the academic day by integrating the academic curricula with disguised learning activities that are aligned with the California State standards.
To enhance, stimulate and engage active young minds through the arts and sciences the following areas of study will be offered:
• Performing Arts
• Creative Movement
• World Cultures
• Music
• Life, Physical and Earth Sciences
• Healthy Life styles and Environmental Awareness
Over a hundred kids a day investigate the arts and sciences by participating in inquiry-based experiences that stimulate children’s natural curiosity toward the world they live in. During the year, the students will be investigating world history by taking a walk through time starting with pre history and by the end of the year moving forward into the modern world. We will be looking at various countries by investigating their culture, history, food, art and scientific inventions. In addition, the program provides a healthy snack and homework assistance and tutoring. For the 2009-10 school year there will be 6 groups of 20 students lead by a Group Leader. The group breakdown follows:

GROUPS
Dragons (K-1)
Wombats (1-2)
Pandas (2-3)

ENRICHMENT CLASSES

ASP staff have met the basic qualifications required by the California Department of Education, the Fresno County Office of Education and the Fresno Unifies School District. In addition, each staff member has or will be current and up to date in CPR/First Aid certification. At least 3 professional development days per year are set aside for our staff.
RECYCLE FOR THE FUTURE
Recycle mania has come to ASP. Please support ASP by bringing in for recycling glass and plastic beverage bottles, aluminum cans and E-waste (cell phones, MP3 players, working lap top computers, used ink cartridges and digital cameras). Please go to www.E-phone.com, our e-waste recycle company, to see how they recycle responsibly. The money raised through this effort will directly fund projects and activities in ASP.
